The beauty of volunteering

"The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves". - Helen Keller.

From an early age we help others in some way, as well as others who help us. Bring some milk from the supermarket to grandma, to hold the hand of a visually impaired person while crossing the street....There are many examples of helping others even though sometimes we do it unconsciously. But one thing is certain, in the end we help ourselves because we feel fulfilled and happy.

I started volunteering in elementary school, I helped my classmates with their studies and the like. In the older grades of elementary school and after officially enrolling in high school, I started doing more "serious" volunteer work. The volunteer engagement helped me decide on my future career and that's how I enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine, majoring in Special Education and Rehabilitation. Through my studies, I started volunteering in the association of citizens "Tracak nade" where I volunteered for two years and through working with the users of the association I see myself changing and growing into a very self-satisfied person. Through volunteering, I discovered what I want to do all my life, but also how to become the best possible version of myself through helping and working with other people.

In the words of Edith Wharton:
"There are two ways of spreading light: to be a candle or a mirror that reflects it" would describe the beauty of volunteering because it says that light certainly spreads, it doesn't matter from which side you look.
