BOSANA through Pelka's eyes

My name is Pelka Jovicic, I was born in Bijeljina but now I live in Tuzla, where I study at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Tuzla. From an early age, I knew that in the future I want to work with children, help children through my work, and achieve success together, especially with children with any kind of developmental difficulties.

Therefore, my study is related to working with children and people with disabilities.  Through many years of volunteering and activism in various non-governmental organizations, I realized that working with children and young people fulfills me the most. I have worked on a lot of projects and I am still involved in many associations that promote human rights, peace, and community.

In order for my studies to run smoothly, I applied for a scholarship at the Bosana Foundation. Quite by accident, I came across a call on social media to apply for a scholarship, reading the application, I decided to apply. I did not hope that someone from the other side of the world would choose me as one of the 9 Bosana scholarship holders in 2019/20. year. When I received the invitation for an interview, I was overjoyed because I realized that someone finally sees and respects my efforts and work. The interview was successful and I was chosen. It has been a year since I have been part of Bosana. I am happy with Bosana staff and with all the students that Bosana provides scholarships. They are always there for any kind of support and help. I have seen a lot of successful young people who were helped by Bosana’s scholarship to achieve their goals, not only financially but also morally. I am simply proud of myself and the people around me, who are always there, spread all over our beautiful Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosana gave me back my hope, gave me the support that no one has so far. What young people need is understanding and tolerance, support, love, and well-being, and I got all that in this foundation. I am especially surprised that the Bosana staff has time for everyone individually and has a special approach and understanding for everyone. During the pandemic, they did not forget their students, they provided support and security daily. With people like this, the future of B&H is bright and secure. I do not have enough adequate words to thank Bosana for everything so far and for what they are currently giving me. I will write a quote that means a lot to me and because of which I did not give up on my dreams, and Bosana helped me and is helping to achieve the same:

"Your time is limited, don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is the result of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other people's opinions drown out your inner voice. And most importantly, dare to follow your heart and intuition. they already somehow know what you want to become. Everything else is secondary."- Steve Jobs"
